Transmittance and absorption spectra can be measured with an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer. In the spectrum, the horizontal axis indicates wavelength, and the vertical axis indicates transmittance and absorbance. The slit can be moved in or out the tube by a rack and pinion arrangement using the focus knob and its width can be adjusted by turning.
